The Winter months are the quietest time here on Hilton Head Island, making it a perfect time for your visit.
The Weather
The temps are near perfect on the island in the winter. Generally, the highs are in the 60s, and the lows are in the 40s. Layering up is the best course of action so that you stay warm in the evenings but can peel away layers during the day while you galivant around the island. Rent a bike and enjoy the outdoors on several scenic bike trails.
The Wildlife
Even though many animals tend to hide or hibernate in the winter, Hilton Head Island has some impressive wildlife you’re bound to run into in the off-season. Birdwatching is a prevalent pastime on the island, and it’s easy to see why! There are nearly 200 species of birds that call Hilton Head home. Check out these locations to spot some of our feathered friends!
The Water
Sure, it may be too cold for outdoor swimming, but you and your family can enjoy other water-based activities. Why not hop on a fishing charter or take a dolphin and nature tour? And don’t forget the beaches! The off-season means that the beaches are less crowded but just as gorgeous. You can get your sea legs without ever getting in the water with so many aquatic adventures available!
The Wine (and Food!)
No vacation is complete without getting to savor the foods and libations. When on Hilton Head Island, you simply must partake in the exquisite seafood offerings and numerous restaurant options. Stop by the Hilton Head Island Wine and Food Festival in March to sample sips and snacks!
And don’t forget that there are many other things to see and do on the island at any given time of the year! It may be the off-season, but your Hilton Head Island vacation is on!
