We are finally leaving the coldness of winter behind us. That means it’s time to get outside. Of course, you’ve already planned your trip to Hilton Head. And you’re planning to be outside as much as you can to enjoy the beautiful spring weather while you’re there. It’s time to grab your bike so you can explore as much of the beauty on the island as you can. But before you head out, you’ll need to make sure your bike is safe after its long winter hiatus.
Fix it
If you put your bike away last winter with the thought that there was no point fixing any problems before you stow it away for a while, now is the time to remember your promise to yourself. Even if there weren’t any problems before you put it away, it’s good to get a tune-up to prevent future problems. Check the tires checked, chain, cranks, brakes, etc., to make sure your first ride out is a good one.
Clean it
Hopefully, you gave your bike a thorough cleaning before putting it away for the winter. If that’s the case, you might only need to wipe it down. However, whether it is just a light layer of dust or heavy caked-on soil to remind you of that last mud run, it’s essential to keep your bike clean and chains lubed to prevent rust from eating away at the frame or chains.
Prep it
Before you hop on your bike, double-check your saddlebag. You want to be ready for emergencies, so make sure you have a spare tube, CO2 cartridges, tire levers, and first aid supplies. You have to be prepared for anything!
When you head out the door to see the sights on Hilton Head, the last thing on your mind should be whether you will come back safely or not, so be sure you take care of everything on your bike before you go. Or, find one already ready for you at Riding Tigers Bikes!
