We get it. You’ve had enough of the crowds. Part of the reason you want to go on vacation is so that you can get away from it all. And that means getting away from all the people. You want to find a place that’s secluded, and yet still has enough to offer to keep you busy. Here at Hilton Head, we have you covered with great hidden vacation nooks. There are quite a few nooks and crannies where you can hide away on vacation. Here are a few:

Audubon Newhall Preserve

Visit this serene lakeside haven to take one of the marked and guided trails (longer, or shorter ones perfect for kids). Learn new flora by reading the trail markers. And don’t forget to bring a lunch – there are plenty of picnic spots.

Shelter Cove Marina

Have you ever gone fishing in a kayak? Ready to give it a try? South Carolina has plenty of fishing regulations, so make sure you are familiar before you take on this interesting feat.

Mitchelville Freedom Park

New to the island, this park is a fantastic place to learn the history of the first self-governed freedman’s village in the U.S. Beyond that, you can find a great spot for bird watching, trail walking, beach-going, or playground playing.

Tree Beach on Daufuskie

This place is so remote, it can only be accessed by boat (or paddleboat, or kayak). Here’s a beach you should have almost all to yourself. Plan to bring a picnic with you and plenty to do for the whole day; you won’t want to leave. You may have company from the dolphins who visit often as well.

There are plenty of places on Hilton Head Island for the tourists. Take your family (or just yourself!) to a fresh, new place no one else goes and relax in peace and quiet. Be sure to rent your bike ahead of time and enjoy the peacefulness of Hilton Head.
