There are plenty of good reasons why so many people love golf. What’s not to love about getting out in the great outdoors, getting a little exercise, and relieving some stress? Vacation is an ideal time to revel in relaxation, and Hilton Head Island has excellent locations to “putt” around. Here are “FORE” of the best:
Hilton Head National Golf Club
Hilton Head National is an excellent venue for a round of golf. With water features like lagoons and pot bunkers, this course is both challenging and fair. Since no homes overlook the layout, the wildlife and vegetation are plentiful!
The Atlantic Dunes Course
Fun Fact! The historic Ocean Course was the first course built on the island, and the Atlantic Dunes course is a complete reconstruction. Numerous ponds run alongside this course, and you’re sure to catch a mellow sea breeze now and again as the course progresses.
Arthur Hills Golf Course
The Arthur Hills Course opened in 1986. As well as being a beautiful and uniquely designed course, it boasts a driving range, a short game area, and a putting green. Speaking of greens, on the 15th green, you can get an up-close view of the Historic Leamington lighthouse! This structure was built between 1879 and 1880 as part of a more extensive system of navigation lights that guided ships into Port Royal Sound.
Don’t forget to swing by the Pro Shop or grab a bite at Arthur’s Grill!
Harbour Town Golf Links
Since 1969, the Harbour Town Golf Links has been the premier golf course on Hilton Head Island. Most of the course is played inland with narrow fairways, small greens, and all the charm of the woodlands, but the 17th and 18th holes give you stunning views of the Calibogue Sound. The Harbour Town Golf Links is also the only course in South Carolina that hosts an annual PGA Tour event!
If you feel like you’re “in the rough,” come and visit Hilton Head Island and let your cares melt away on the green. And remember, may the course be with you!
